Pottery from the second firing of my big wood kiln

Last summer I built a 54-cubic-foot catenary arch wood kiln here at Burnside Pottery. After spending the winter months making new work, I fired both kilns at the same time (with some very good help!) to prepare for my spring open studio.

Using what I learned from the first firing, I made a few improvements that helped everything run more smoothly—and even shaved a few hours off the end of the firing. The results were fantastic.
